The Soren Norbo Trio featuring Django Bates

DEBATES is the result of the meeting between on of Denmark’s most exiting jazz groups right now, the Soren Norbo Trio and the British internationally renowned jazz ace Django Bates.

The Cd starts out with the almost boisterous tango “Saxo meets Jessica” an imaginary meeting between the medieval Danish historian Saxo and one of Soren Norbo’s favorite actors Jessica Lange. How this meeting turns out only occurs in Norbos twisted mind and maybe in yours. Anyways, the scene for the music is set immediately. After a few minutes of listening the group has already been through various stages of singing, laughing and shouting, before finally Bates takes a blasting solo on his horn.

After this follows a swinging powerful version of Norbo’s evergreen “Dedikeret” or “Dedikated” a composition written back in the eighties and a tribute to Norbos first icons, pianist Bill Evans.

Here you hear the group in a almost straight forward jazz waltz, that shows that these guys can swing when necessary!

The next song to follow is the laid back bluesy “De baglæns fornemmelser” or “The Backwards Sensations” a long almost twelve minutes odyssey in creative ideas and great solos from the band members. Great solos from Bates, Norbo and bassist Niels Præstholm. Listen to the background Præstholm has to perform his solo upon!

Fourth song is the title song from the Trios last CD before Debates “Tu – whoo, To You” After a virtuoso intro from Bates the tempo is up again and the music flows beautiful and takes the audience for a joyful ride.

The CD ends of with the CD’s black pearl. “7” is starts with a melody line from Norbo’s hand. Then it goes into a free improvisation taking the music all over the spectre reaching from pure sounds to structural musical ideas in front of a stunned but enthusiastic audience.
